Applications Areas of Hydrated Laminar Mineral are:
- As a packing material: for transporting dangerous, corrosive and flammable chemicals [see UPS and D.O.T. Regulations for listings]. It is light, clean and easily poured around irregular shaped objects and provides an excellent baffle against impact shock plus absorbent qualities for spillage.
- As an absorbent: It will absorb 4.2 times its weight of water and 3.1 times its weight of oil. Excellent for clean-up of oil, fuel, process waste, inks and other similar spills.
- Is an ideal growing medium as it may be used alone, in hydroponics, seed encapsulation, and soil conditioner or as a carrier and extender for fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides.
- As a masonry insulation : It is both rot proof and vermin proof and provides an inorganic insulation for brick cavity and concrete block walls. It is capable of supporting its own weight without settling and has excellent free flowing and non-bridging characteristics. Conforms to ASTM C516-80.
- As a lightweight concrete aggregate: It is mixed with Portland cement and water, plus a plasticiser if desired. It concrete is used for "insitu" roof and floor screeds. It is easily mixed and placed by hand or mechanical equipment. Vermiculite concrete can be cut, sawn, nailed or screwed. Conforms to ASTM C332-87 and Underwriter`s Laboratories approved.
- As a high temperature insulation: for use in refractory bricks and brick kilns. Both crude and exfoliated vermiculite are used in steelworks and foundries generally as loosefill, sometimes mixed with an exothermic material.
- As a bulker in animal feed: It is an outstanding support material for carrying a wide range of nutrients.
