Product Profile of Protex Silicone

Britacel are manufacturers of specialty silicones which cater to the needs of textile finishing, silicone emulsions, defoamers for hot spinning and jet dyeing, body fillers, water repellents, printing products and reactive dyes. Protex is a specialty product for the protonic [h+] treatment of textiles based on its polyvalent properties. Its unique features are as follows:

• Protex can replace the sodium hypochlorite bleach before the peroxide bleach with a protonic treatment.

• Ionizes metal particles preventing catalytic damage to cotton and /or restabilization of the peroxide bleaching liquor.

• Protex is a pale yellow clear liquid in appearance

• Emits a mild acidic odour

• Replaces organic acids [formic or acetic acid] in neutralization operations after alkaline treatments such as scour boiling, mercerizing or bleaching.

• Can act as a buffer, a sequestering agent and a stabilizer.

• Deminerlizes cotton and removes difficult to eliminate pigments.

Finds application in the desizing of polyester and polyester cellulosic blends. Protonic treatment by the pad bath method.
