Numag data manufactures model iso-01 serial port opto-isolators. These isolators are useful for optically isolating rs-232 port signals to avoid ground current loops and increase reliability of serial port hardware. The serial port opto isolators are independently powered from 230 v mains supply and the rs-232 port control and data lines are isolated by industry standard optical isolator hardware. Ground current loops that are formed due to difference in ground potential between two equipments that are communicating over serial port, are more often the reason for component failures in serial ports. This problem has been overcomed by model iso-01 serial port opto isolators by optically isolating signals. The opto-isolator has two 9-pin d type male connectors providing isolated tx, rx, rts, cts, dsr and dtr signals.
