Orion electronics supplies fibre-optic modem. Dataforth ldm 85 is a small, inexpensive fibre-optic transmitter/receiver completely powered by the host rs-232 port. The enclosure for the ldm 85 is a conductive shell, which greatly reduces rf radiation and susceptibility. The rugged metal enclosure is small enough to mount on the back panel of typical computer equipment. A pair of this unit allows most rs-232 cable links to be replaced and extended with a duplex fibre-optic cable. The normal 50 feet rs-232 limit may be extended to 2.0 km. Fibre optic data communication provides complete emi/rfi rejection, isolation, elimination of ground loops and reduced error rates. Data security is enhanced by almost non-existent electromagnetic emission. Rs-232 connection is through male/female eia25 pin connector. Fibre-optic connection is through sma [905] or st connector. Ldm 85 is equivalent to 3 wires rs232 full-duplex circuit. Leds are provided for diagnostics.
