Integrated electronics technology offers precision low tcr metal film resistors in radial style with low tolerance down to 0.05% and low temperature co-efficient down to ±5 ppm/°c resistors using thin film ic technology. They come in a value range from 10 ohms to 1 mohms and wattage range of 1/4 w to 1 w. Axial rn65 style is available for low tolerance and bulk quantity. These resistors have a nicr film deposited on a high purity ceramic substrate. Selective etching of nicr film with the use of photolithography forms the resistor trace. The conditioned pattern is then microtrimmed to the required tolerance and value by selectively trimming various adjusting points that have been designed into the photoetched pattern of the resistive element. Due to the high density patterning technology there is no chance of hot spot creation as in spirally cut axial resistors. These resistors are widely used in applications requiring reliability over a wide temperature range like weighing machines, measuring instruments, chart recorders, etc.
