Electrical fires are caused due to overheating of system a components such as cables, equipment, motors, transform ers, etc. Overheating is a manifestation of continuous flow of high current over a period of time. Since loading is frequently subject to short period fluctuations, standard ammeters or wattmeters cannot give information about thermal loading. Meco maximum demand ammeter is designed with a memory indicator [red pointer that provides vital information regarding thermal loading of the system. The instrument is designed to indicate only the average current loading over a length of time, irrespective of the short period changes. The indication of the instrument represents the mean current loading over a period of 15 minutes. With this indication, the consumer can adjust the load to restrict the maximum demand to a safer level and thus prevent damage due to overloading of the installation.
