Aplab-seba has developed a portable 35 kv pressure testing equipment specially suited for testing hv electrical cables. The unit provides continuously variable dc voltage [0-35 kv]. It is rated for 5 ma load current up to maximum voltage. Current range of 1 ma and 10 ma are standard. Dpms are provided for kv [0.1 kv resolution] and ma [0.01 ma resolution] are provided giving excellent resolution for testing and interpretation of test results. The high output current capacity [5 ma] up to maximum voltage means that the cable can be changed much more quickly to the desired voltage than other high pot testing equipment, so that saving in testing time. The unit has the facility of soft discharge of connected load/equipment at the end of test/or on tripping, through an internal discharge device. Other safety features include variac zero protection, over voltage/over current/over temperature trip, output block/output cable connected portion, to safeguard the equipment. The unit is truly portable with weight under 25 kg achieved through special components. Thus it is useful for testing dielectric strength and insulation of cables [up 22 kv] for testing after initial installation, during fault location process and to test goodness of fault repair job.
