Impregnated Diamond Type Core Bit is part of an overall drilling system that includes a reaming shell, a core retrieval device [core barrel assembly], the drill string [rods] and the drill rig itself. Impregnated Diamond Type Core Bit comes with a basic construction, which features a sintered powdered metal crown that is fused to a steel tool body or shank. It has a simple crown geometry that makes them less susceptible to in-hole damage. The powdered metal crown is composed of two layers, the "matrix" layer, which cuts the rock, and the "backing" layer, which connects the matrix layer to the steel tool body and serves to support the gauge diameter protection hard materials. The cutting media that is used in impregnated bits is natural diamond. The bits are manufactured with varying matrices between 25RC to 48 C to suit different rock formations. The Bits can be supplied with full crown, flat crown, and semi round crown and semi flat profiles.
