The spray dryer consists of a large cylindrical and a vertical chamber in which the material to be dried is kept in the form of small droplets and fed a large volume of hot air sufficient to supply the heat, necessary to complete evaporation of liquid. The spray drying process is applicable to a wide range of products and industries. The Spray Dryers are available in three models, co-current type, counter current type and co-counter type. In the co-current type, feed and hot air enters from same side and feed is from rotary atomizer and nozzle.
In the counter current type, feed is from top side and hot air from bottom side and feed is from rotary atomizer and nozzle. In the co-counter type spray dryer, feed is from bottom side and hot air is from top [Fountain] side, and the feed atomization is through pressure nozzle or two fluid nozzles. The application areas of Spray Dryers are ceramic tiles making plant; dyes intermediates; herbal extract; natural products; food product and tea.
