Shantara insulators manufactures polycrete insulators which has a material basically made up of silica powder [filler] and polymer resin [binder]. Polymer resin is used for outdoor applications and is mixed with silica filler and hardener and then casted in moulds under vacuum. The reaction takes place and the material cure at room temperature and within 2 hours the insulators can be acquired out of the mould. This insulator is then post cured for full strength and finished to get the porcelain type glossy surface but is not brittle as porcelain which minimizes the breakage problems during commissioning and working. The polycrete insulators are available with metal parts embedded with the material which help in design optimisation and water seepages problems are nil. This avoids extra need of rubber parts and hardware. These instruments have the advantages of repairing broken porcelain insulators and bushing with polycrete material to their original design. The material polycrete is cheaper than epoxy and can be applied for indoor applications. Curing time of polycrete is only 24 hours as compared to 30 days for porcelain and thus delivery can be made within a short notice helping maintenance and repair.
