The dies is produced by sintering together carefully selected synthetic diamond particles in the presence of a metallic phase using very high temperature and ultra-high pressure so that diamond-to diamond bonding occurs. The diamond core of the device is supported in a ring of tungsten carbide and has very high wear resistance combined with strength and resistance to cracking and bursting.
