The hardness of the Intake and Exhaust Valve varies from 20HRC to 50HRC according to the material used and the application of the valve. Alloy steel is used for intake valve as these valves are not exposed to the corrosive action of the hot exhaust gases. Therefore, these are capable to serve longer periods with trouble free operations. For the exhaust valve, chromium silicon is used which makes it resistant to corrosion due to high temperature and hot gases.
