Sonisat supplies `honewel` honing tools in four models. Honing heads differs from that of grinding in that honing stones has relatively a large area of abrasive in contact at rather slow speeds and low pressure. Honing heads leaves the surface temperature low with no surface damage. On the other hand grinding runs at a high speed and in a relatively high pressure and a line contact between abrasive and bore. Thus it develops to an extremely high surface temperature which can result in a permanent damage in the surface structure of the bore.Honing heads gives greater accuracy and specifies to a rarher more fine surface finish and leaving a stress free metal surface in the bore.. Honewel`s honing heads works with a combined speed of grinding and the accuracy of lapping. The stock is first removed from the high spots in the bore with the low areas being bridged by the honing stone till the `peaks` are leveled off. The size of the grains used in the stone accurately controls the finish of the surface giving it a fine touch.
