Sonisat machine tool accessories offers floating holders for reamers and tapping tools. The objective of the floating reamer holder is to compensate misalignment between the tool and job, where reaming, tapping or similar operations are being performed in different stations after holes are drilled. The features that make the floating reamer holders durable, free floating tools are:
- a double gear spline drive coupling is used for the neutralizing or intermediate driving member, gear spline couplings have been used successfully for years in the transmission field to compensate for misalignment between shafts;
- constant changing of the splines in contact causes a rocking or weaving action of the drive coupling, which gives the lubricant continuous flow in and out of the splines -positive lubrication that cushions torsional shock over-load and reduces wear;
- based on well known principles two standard thrust bearings are placed close together, which minimizes the effect of the force applied on the tool by the hole and allows the tool to freely float into alignment, because the floating element is separated from the drive, the balls move freely in the required direction or rotate around the collet.
This eliminates reciprocating movement and increases bearing life.
