The wood is not glossy like rock maple and the growth rings are relatively unclear. The wood has average bending and crushing strengths. Low stiffness and resistance to shock loads are other nature of the wood. The wood is very effective for stem bending. It needs long seasoning because is takes more time to dry. The wood functions easily with both hand and machine tools. Nailing is good but the result of gluing is not always good. The durability of the heartwood is not satisfactory and furniture beetle can attack it. Maple hard is used in different positions like domestic flooring, furniture, interior joinery piano action, dairy and laundry equipment, sports goods, turnery, paneling, etc.
