The wood contains smooth texture, straight grain, prominent rays and tiny pores. Crushing strength, average stiffness and resistance to shock loads are found in this wood. The strength of the wood is akin with the steam beech. At the time of seasoning the proper steps must be taken because it is inclined to warp, crack, large, shrinkage, checks and discoloration. After seasoning the movement in service is not difficult. The nailing and gluing of the wood are extremely well. Proper staining and polishing of the wood lead to good finish. Though the heartwood is perishable the sapwood is liable to attack by wood insects. The indian mahogony is outstanding wood for turnery.
