Connecting rods are made from contoured steel forgings, with utmost dimensional and weight control. The malleable or spheroidal-graphite iron casting or sinter forgings are being used for smaller engines. These are either serrated or groove-and-tongue joints. Split half-shell thin-ball bearings are incorporated in the big-end-housing bore of the connecting rod. It is provided with a positive means of locating, aligning and securing the shells in their housing bore.
