Sirem of france has developed barrel-type drum motors, marketed by emco lenze, which are specifically used for conveyor belt installations. The planetary type gears offer, through the distribution of the rotary momentum, the best ratio of space requirement to performance. The reliability is ensured by using thermoplastic and alloyed dry powder metal simultaneously. Conical machining at both ends ensures the centering of the belt. The optimum use of motors in addition to different designs enables the best possible application in case of fixed cycle as well as continuous operation. No need of oil any longer for the purpose of cooling, thus the problems associated with spots which leak no longer exists. As the drum motors are based on a modular construction principle, they can be assembled as per individual requirements of the customer. The new drum motors require single or three phase ac power. They have an output of 0.05 to 0.18 kw, and attain an operating speed of 3 to 81 m/min. The drum motors are encased with galvanized or non-rusting steel. They are 250 to 1,000 mm long, having a diameter of 72 and 113 mm. These come in ip 55 and ip 66 ratings, with its own ip 55 regulation appliance.
