Spear Pointed Pressure Testing Gauge Instrument is an instrument for determining the vacuum in an open top can for processed food. It can also record pressure developed in the can due to spoilage or hydrogen formation. The rubber gasket of the testing gauge is placed against the flat centre of the double-seamed end. The can is then pierced by pressing down the instrument. Care should be taken to ensure that the gauge is not titled during the piercing operation as this may given an incorrect reading by permitting air into the can.
