The working could be explained as follows: the complete system consists of the lead screw and a nut as similar to a conventional lead system. The leads screw is coupled to the spindle, which gives the linear motion as well as the rotation for the spindle. The nut on the lead screw is also rotating through the drive coming from the set of gears, which finally define the pitch of the threads to be cut. The speed of the spindle is varied by means of frequency converter and electronics, which is a suhner patent. The linear distance travelled is well controlled by means of potentiometer and the feedback is also taken out of it. The advantages of such a system is flexibility and fast change over in the set up of the machine, thus eliminating longer set up times of the lead system. This drastically improves the productivity and quality levels. Suhner units are meant for improving productivity and reducing downtime.
