There is scope for saving energy while operating induction motors when the load is cyclic or continuously low. Two types of energy savers are offered i.E., thyristorised type and an electronic system [delstar converter module] which uses the contactors in the star delta starter to advantage. The thyristorised type continuously adjusts the voltage based on load, to save energy. Delstar converter module is a low cost system that can be used when the load on the motor is less than 50%. It switches the motor to operate in star to save energy. When the load increases beyond the set limit it automatically switches the motor to operate the motor in delta. It is also possible to tailor the thyristorsed type for a group of small capacity motors to save energy. Advantages: substantial energy saving, reduction in kva contributing to reduction in maximum demand, improvement in power factor, cooler operation of motor leading to increase in motor life. Optional facilites like digital indication for current, hour meter, run overload trip, start overload trip and single phasing trip etc. Can be provided. These can be installed in the mcc or near the motor. These are available in standard and ip55 and other special enclosures, suitable for outdoor use. Models for use with existing dol starters can also be supplied.
