Analyte automation manufactures a length/displacement measuring transducer based on the principle of magneto-restriction, introduced by gefran, italy. Here the tube of fe-ni material with magneto-restrictive characteristic is used. The current pulse is generated along the tube that generates instantaneous circular magnetic field along it. The cursor contains a magnet, which is complementary magnetic field to the generated magnetic field. The interaction between the two creates a torsional sound wave from the point of interaction of the two fields. The sound wave runs at 2850 m/sec along the tube towards both ends. An inductive pick-up converts the passage of the wave into an electrical echo pulse. The time between the two pulses is used to calculate the position of the cursor. The advantages of using these transducers are that of high accuracy and resolution. There is no mechanical contact, hence no wear and tear, and hence infinite operational life. Because of sealed tube, the product is of ip-67 grade protection. Typical applications include cnc/nc machines, injection moulding machines, industrial robotics, hydraulic press, level measurement, etc.
