Phoenix enterprises manufactures an etching pencil for hardened steel which is an ultimate solution in cases where marking on hardened and ground steel surfaces presents problems as performance of usual devices drops with hardness. This etching pencil is specially made to mark on all steels and the sharpness increases with hardness of the material. The etching pencil for hardened steel is yet unsuitable for softer metals like brass, aluminium, etc, unless they are chrome plated. The etching pencil makes possible only handwriting style etching and service is not continuous. The pencil does not contain any moving parts, do not use any liquid and is able to work on electrical resistance heating principle using 220/230 v ac mains supply. This etching pencil for hardened steel leaves a deeper etch compared to conventional devices and is effected by a 140 mm long elect rode housed in slim handpiece concealing no coil. The etching pencil operates without vibrations and only a glow will appear during the process of etching as against usual constant sparking process. The etching pencil can be applied for marking dies, punches, machine tool components, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, bearings, collets, inspection gauges, gears, etc.
