Key Features of Water Ring Type Vacuum Pump
- The rotor casing of the pump which during operation is partly filled with water accommodates the eccentrically mounted rotor.
- The rotation of the rotor forces the water to the periphery of the casing thus forming a rotating water ring.
- The inner surface of the water rising seals off the gas compartments which are formed between the rotor blades.
- Due to eccentric rotation, the gas compartments increase in size as rooter rotates for part of the rotation.
- The action of these gas compartments formed between the blades of the rooter is thus, similar to that of many water pistons working together.
- There is no metal to metal contact in between rotor, rotor casing or suction and delivery casing since the gaps are sealed by the water ring.
- Lubrication in the chamber is, therefore, not required. The heat of compression is absorbed by the working fluid which is water.
