Powermag control systems [p] ltd offers variable speed drives which operate based on eddy current principle. The company supplies adjustable speed drive operated by electromagnetic induction without physical contact. The company provides these variable speed drives with primary elements like ac motor, eddy current clutch, tacho generator and separate small solid-state electronic controller.
The eddy current clutch provided with the drives has a ac motor driven drum at constant speed which transmits torque to rotor/shaft through an adjustable magnetic field created by the clutch coil. The eddy current variable speed drive comes with an integral tacho generator mounted around the output shaft to provide voltage and frequency proportional to speed. The eddy current drives operate in 34:1 speed and transmit up to 250 % motor torque intermittently. The variable speed drives uses tachometer for speed reference feedback and 0.5 to 1 % regulation.
These variable speed drives can quickly accelerate high inertia loads and handle intermittent overloads without increasing horsepower and eliminate external cooling fans.
