The tube has extended surface including wire wound into elongated loops that are, each tied to the basic tube in a helical formation. Due to high surface ratio and turbulence, the heat transfer rate per unit length for wire wound tube is higher than that for crimped spirally wound tubes. Tubes can be offered in lengths up to 5 m with basic tube diameter from 9.5 mm to 25.4 mm, and over- wire diameter of 19 mm to 60 mm or more. The material used for construction could be copper, copper alloys, carbon steel and stainless steel, and wire material copper and tinned carbon steel. The wire geometry is variable as per design requirement. A wire wound internal turbulator is fitted inside the externally finned wire wound tube for oil cooler application.
