The Composite Polymeric Insulators are used to provide support to the outdoor cable terminations up to 36kV. The insulators consist of an epoxy resin bonded fiberglass rod covered with weather resistant polymeric shaded sleeve and aluminium caps at both ends. The polymeric material is compounded to have hydrophobic surface and retains the same over a long period of exposure after severe electrical activity [dry band arching]. Hydrophhodicity can be transferred on top of the contaminated layer to provide resistance to wetting. This can significantly be reduced and control leakage currents.
