| Agaram industries offers kernel characterization system. The skcs 4100, which includes the usdn perten hardness classification calibration, will characterize samples as soft, hard or mixed using measurements made on 300 individual kernels. It automatically singulates kernels and determines individual kernel weights, diameters, moisture and crushing force profiles. The hardness index is calculated using an algorithm developed by the usda. Network connections possible through industry standard modem and fax cards. Results for each sample is displayed on the vga colour monitor, recorded on an internal hard disk, and may be transferred to an `optional line printer. By means of a rotating pickup wheel [singulator] with vacuum ports, kernels are dropped one by one into a bucket in which the weight is measured. After weighing the kernel falls into a narrowing crushing gap between a rotor and a crescent. The rotor forces the kernel through the gap while crushing it. While the kernel is passing through the rotor and crescent assembly, kernel crush force, and diameter is measured; the kernel`s moisture content is also measured through the kernel`s conductivity.
