| Cable corporation of india offers, for the first time in the country, an aluminium sheathed ehv cable, type 2xay 1 x 630 rm/v 38166 kv[e]. It is constructed of compacted circular copper conductor lapped with semiconducting tape/s, conductor screening of extruded semi-conducting compound, followed by super-clean xlpe insulation with extruded semi-conducting insulation screen [triple extruded and vulcanised by mdcv process]. It is further followed by lapped semi-conducting water swelling tape/s provided on this for the purpose of preventing longitudinal water penetration. Corrugated aluminium sheath is provided for mechanical protection, electrical screen and to prevent radial water penetration. Over this, an anti-corrosive compound is provided for preventing corrosion followed by pvc outer sheath which is coated by conducting compound to facilitate after laying sheath testing. This cable has been designed and developed for the karnataka electricity board and hotel leela venture ltd. Corrugated aluminium sheath testing manufactures superior characteristics as compared to conventional lead sheathing. These include the following: aluminium is approximately 4 times lighter in weight as lead; aluminium has better heat conductance, 6 times that of lead; it has better electrical conductance, 8 times that of lead; and finally, it has better tensile strength. This results in simplified handling, installation and overall cost saving.
