Shenoy engineering have developed multi-axes, multi-spindle milling spms that have totally 9 axes and 3 spindle units, thus providing a unique capability to machine the different segments of the same component simultaneously in the same setting. These spms avoid machining the same component in multiple setting and considerably save on time and boost productivity and accuracy. Each slide unit has 3 axes movement, vertical, cross and horizontal. There are 5 hp ram spindle units mounted on the first and the last slide units. The central slide unit has vertical and horizontal axes. The 10 hp ram type milling head, having 500 mm stroke is the cross feed axis. To the horizontal spindle of ram type milling head, a right angle attachment is mounted which can be tilted ±360-degrees. The tilting type right angle attachment adds a unique capability to machine all the 4 walls of the cavity, two sides, top and bottom. Spindle units, rigidly supported with the pre-loaded taper roller bearings, are designed for heavy duty milling operation. Case-hardened guideway strips are provided for the male sliding surfaces and turcite lining, for the female surfaces. A well designed automatic lubrication system takes care of lubrication on all the sliding and rotating parts at regular intervals. The feed movements are through lead screw, box nut mechanisms and the feed drive units consist of worm reduction gear box and vfd controlled motors. A combination of adjustable feed-end limit switches and plc provides an efficient auto-cycle to the machine. The spms are specially designed for machining the inner walls of 3 different pockets in a railway product, namely side frame.
