| Wichita, uk, has offered the latest tension control brake, mistral 280, which has more heat dissipation and torque rating than the earlier mistral 200. The earlier brakes were used for paper corrugator machines with speed 350 m/min. The tension control brake mistral 280 with its higher heat capacity of 5.2 kw and torque rating up to 1800 nm with its multi range option of 3, 6 & 9 actuators is suitable for corrugator speeds of 480 m/min or more. At zero air pressure the brake is zero, making it easier for machine thread-up operation and flying splice integrity. The mistral 280 is fully guarded with integral wear indicators and is compact at only 410 mm diameter x 192 mm deep with a design that will add to the aesthetics of any unwind reel/roll stand. The mistral family incorporates an integrally mounted electrical fan for optimum cooling to give good wear life and precise controllability. Although the mistral range was originally targeted at the corrugator mill roll stands it has also widely used in the printing, sheeting, slitting and coating industries. In all the tension applications, the inherent low rating inertia of the mistral brakes coupled with fast response [torque range] to controlled pressure variations greatly assists the machine designers to attain the exact machine specification and to obtain consistency o machine production. For neatness and simplicity of mounting the mistral brakes can be internally fitted with sensors for reel centre detection and speed readings.
