Marshall industries has offered plc controlled auto hydraulic multi spindle drilling cum tapping or reaming machines with fully automatic feed and job clamping facility. The job is hydraulically clamped on a special fixture placed on a shuttle type automatic job transferring system. The automatic cycle starts, once the job is loaded and clamped. At station 1, the drilline cycle includes rapid approach, drilling feed, rapid return and auto stop. The job is then automatically transferred to station 2, where the tapping/reaming cycle is completed. The job is again automatically transferred back to station 1 and unclamped. The machines are given with several safety features, which include starting of cycle only after the job is clamped. These machines include following features:
[a] six speeds available in the gearbox driving the multi spindle head;
[b] centralized lubrication system; and,
[c] antifriction [turcite ® b] lining on slideways.
A special feature of these machines is that apart from the main vertical multi spindle head, they can also be given with a number of other multi spindle heads with independent drives, aligned in different planes and at different angles. This enables simultaneous drilling of the job from various angles and positions in one setting. These machines are suitable for high production jobs requiring accuracy of drilled cum tapped/reamed holes. Some of the jobs completed on these machines include flanges, differential casing, fan bodies, auto parts, etc.
