| Grand centrifugal clutches are used for speed frames and ring frames in textile mills, and for other textile and jute mill machinery such as carding drums, draw frames, knitting machines, weaving looms, and twister machines. The centrifugal clutch is used between driving and the driven shaft for no load starting. The clutch construction is very simple consisting of a shell, a spider and four shoes lined with friction material. The shell is mounted on the motor shaft, while the spider which holds the shoes is mounted on the driving shaft. At motor start there will be no motion of the shell, ie, the driven shaft. The shoes will just slip inside the shell. With the increase in speed of the motor, the centrifugal force of the shoes will also gradually increase and the shoes will start to be engaged with the shell. When the motor attains its full speed, the shoes will be engaged with the shell firmly and full load will come on the motor. Various advantages of this design are: the clutch starts with no load; eliminates heavy starting torque, so small size motor serves the purpose; costs less than fluid coupling and starting equipment; slips on overload and protects the motor; and a direct drive or v pulley drive could be used at the output ends depending upon the requirements and drive layout. The company also offers centrifugal clutches for other industrial applications such as for conveyors, sugar machinery, fertilizers, cement, and chemical plants.
