Spaceway design industry has introduced a vertical carousel. This is an automated storage device that saves valuable floor space. The vertical construction can go up to seven meters [maximum]. The shelves are arranged in two rows, held in special carriers. These are suspended at each end in heavy-duty roller chains. The shelves can be made to carry any type, size and quantity of items. For small items, plastic bins of suitable size are used. An electro-mechanical device operated by a microprocessor based logic circuit moves around the vertical shelves. At the press of a button, the required shelf traverses up or down through the shortest path and is accessible at the window, in front of which is the working table. Storage and retrieval of items thus becomes error-free and fatigue-free. Further automation is possible with a computer interface. The system includes elaborate safety devices. According to client requirements, these systems are essentially custom designed.
