Ozone is a tri - atomic allotrope of oxygen formed by recombination of oxygen atoms. It is a colourless gas with characteristic pungent odor and can easily be detected at low level of 0.05 ppm. It is a very strong oxidant and is over 3000 times more powerful disinfectant than chlorine. It disinfects, oxidizes, deodorizes and decolorizes.

Ozone is the fastest acting oxidizing disinfectant and the most efficient broad spectrum micro biological control agent commercially available. Being highly reactive and completely non-discriminating it immediately starts oxidizing anything it comes in contact with. This makes ozone a very powerful bactericide agent.

Ozone is generated by an ozone generator. Ozone generators use electricity to split oxygen molecules by passing dry air or oxygen through a high frequency high voltage electrical discharge hence to commercially produces ozone. The ozone produced quickly reverts back to oxygen. Thus it cannot be stored or transported. Therefore ozone is produced at the site of application. The ozone produced, when bubbled through water not only kills viruses and bacteria, it also removes microorganisms that cause bad taste and odor in the water. Ozone in right concentration when released in rooms can kill all airborne bacteria and viruses and is used to disinfect air preventing cross contamination. Ozone does not produce trihalometanes and is non- carcinogenic.
