Stmicroelectronics presents a low-cost, satellite set-top-box [stb] receiver/decoder chip [the st15188] for high-volume free-to-air markets. The chip combines the functions of sts stv0288 dvb-s receiver and the stm5118 mass-market stb decoder.

The chip is implemented in 90nm process technology, and is incorporated with quadrature-phase-shift-keying [qpsk] demodulator along with audio digital-to-analogue converters [dacs] and vcxc.The integrated audio dacs offer direct connection to the tv input. The use of serial flash memory has reduce the number of i/o lines required am allowed the package size to be smaller pcb routing, is also simplified, with less chance of electromag netic interference [emi] problems.
