| Freescale semiconductor offers a voice-enabled `gigabit passive optical networking` [gpon] soc [msc7120], which it claims to be the first in the industry. To deliver a complete pon sub-system in a single device, the networking chip integrates a cpu, a starcore dsp and a data path engine. This networking chip addresses the high-data forwarding throughout requirements of several applications. This networking chip finds its applications in: the delivery of `triple play` [voice, video and data] broadband services to homes or small businesses. Gpon technology supports the convergence of ip over optical networks, offering connection speeds much higher than today`s dsl- or docsis-based networks.
