| Rolling systems, also known as thread rolling heads, provides extremely short manufacturing times to the fabrication of external threads. In addition, the strength of threads [and other profiles] fabricated in this way through cold forming the solid material is significantly greater than that of cut of threads. Until now, rolling heads have operated in a purely mechanical fashion, without using electronic elements for controlling or monitoring the process. Fette [lmt] is now demonstrating the first sensing radial rolling head, the type es, at emo. It supplies all the benefits of thread rolling, but greatly increases the reliability of the process without involving any additional expense: the sensing system ensures that every thread is completely finished, and that it satisfies quality requirements before it leaves the machine. This not only saves the investment in test equipment that used to be necessary, but also requires less manning, so increasing capacity. The new sensing rolling head includes an integrated, high-capacity, long-life battery that powers a lifting magnet and is the energy source that triggers the rolling head. It initiates the rolling process after a contact sensor has indicated the presence and correct position of the workpiece. All the internal processes necessary for rolling are automatically set in motion.
