The Automatic Material Handling System is a programmable logic controlled bridge crane typically running the entire length of the process stages, are parallel runways on which the programmable hoist bridge translates providing the horizontal movement from the process stage to stage. Integrated into the hoist bridge is a lifting mechanism that provides the vertical motion of usually a single part envelope into and out of each process stage or position. This hoisting bridge with lifting mechanism assembly is typically referred to as the programmed hoist. In the Automatic Material Handling Systems the part or the parts are hung from standard load bars, hanger bars or within baskets. These load bars or baskets are constructed in such a manner that the hoisting bridge can decouple from them. This decoupling allows the part to remain in the process stage while the load bar rests on seat in each process stage or position. The load unload is typically a stage or position like all others except that part is not within a tank or other equipment. By utilizing multiple load bars and the programmability of the hoist mechanism, parts of Automatic Material Handling Systems can be handled into and out of many process stages by a single programmable hoist.
