The most common causes of lubrication problems are: contamination of bearing by water, dirt, and debris due to inadequate washing or cleanliness prior to greasing; selection of an inappropriate grease as well as inadequate grease quantity for the application; and contamination of the bearings during operation by the ingress of coolant and debris during the spindle operation through inadequately designed spindle sealing. In order to alleviate the above problems, snfa has designed and developed a high speed sealed spindle bearing that is sealed on both sides. The seals of the bearing are made by bonding a nitrite rubber to a steel core. The seals are fitted to the outer ring and run with a very small clearance with the outside diameter of the inner ring. This results in efficient sealing against contamination without increasing the bearing running torque. Seals are designed to optimize the internal space requirements of the bearing in order to give reliable operation and a long life. These high speed sealed spindle bearings and seals have been designed to create a grease reservoir, which will ensure a long bearing life. Another particular problem that will be solved by sealed bearings is that of grease loss from bearings in vertical application. These bearings are designed for high speed operation. They can be supplied with steel or ceramic ball ready for spindle assembly. Installing sealed bearings in place of existing iso 10 and iso 19 series bearings does not require any modification to existing components.
