Stainless Steel 304:
This stainless steel has an economic balance of alloying elements that ensures good cold formability. It has high corrosion resistance, toughness and has mechanical properties with no excessive work-hardening. It performs in unpolluted atmosphere but can tarnish or lightly rust in damp atmospheres around some industrial and on/offshore locations. This stainless steel is used extensively for potable water tubing and in fresh feed water systems where precautions are taken to avoid crevice attack under deposits, etc. Performance in aerated seawater requires adequate galvanic or cathodic protection. The stability and toughness at cryogenic temperatures of Stainless Steel 304 is high.
Stainless Steel 304H:
It is TP 304H with guaranteed carbon content of min. 0, 04 percent. This property of Stainless Steel 304H gives creep resistance. Main applications of Stainless Steel 304H are in heat exchangers and chemical and petrochemical furnaces.
Stainless Steel 304L:
Stainless Steel 304L has low carbon version of guaranteed no creep resistance above 500 degree C. It has high temperature oxidation resistance up to 900 degree C and is available with stability and toughness at cryogenic temperatures. Main applications of Stainless Steel 304L include in areas of pipe and heat exchanger tubes in chemical, petrochemical and food industries.
Stainless Steel 316:
It includes 17 percent CR 12-13 percent Ni steels containing Mo of 2.0-2.4 percent. It is stabilized with Ti which minimizes chromium carbide precipitation and improves resistance to inter-granular corrosion.
Stainless Steel 316L:
They contain 17 percent Cr 12-13 percent Ni steels with 2.0 to 3.0 percent Mo. This steel is used where inter-crystalline corrosion is caused by welding. It is a low carbon content grade with minimizes chromium carbide precipitation and improves resistance to inter-crystalline corrosion. These TP 316/316L grades offer high temperature oxidation resistance up to 900 degree C. In low temperature seawater, they offer limited resistance to pitting, but are susceptible to crevice attack. The feature includes short and long time properties at elevated temperatures. Stainless Steel 316H:
This grade is available with guaranteed carbon content of min. 0.04 percent. This enhances strength at elevated temperatures. Main applications of Stainless Steel 316H are in heat exchangers, furnaces, chemical and petrochemical plant.
Stainless Steel 321:
They are high carbon steels that are prone to inter-crystalline attack in weld zones and slower cooling sections. These steel avoids attacks through its stabilization with Ti. In many low-chloride waters, it is prone to pitting or crevice corrosion in seawater. Water treatment, galvanic protection can influence the performance of Stainless Steel 321.
Stainless Steel 321 H:
This is the high carbon version of TP 321 which ensures great creep resistance. Main applications of Stainless Steel 321 H: Heat exchangers, furnaces, boilers in chemical and petrochemical plant.
