| Beaver drives are applicable in converting ac input into variable frequency, voltage system and maintaining a constant v to f ratio for constant torque and varying ac motor speed steplessly. The ac drives are low cost, conservatively designed with generous safety margins and de-rating, making it highly reliable and maintenance free. Many industrial applications require variable speed drives. These systems used dc motors or ac motor with some type of mechanical speed control in past resulting in a high cost, high maintenance and an energy inefficient system. The ac motor is perfect choice because it is inexpensive, maintenance free, readily available and coupled with inverter transforms into a variable speed, constant torque machine. Variable speed ac motor drives are available with salient features like soft start, high starting current reduction, smooth voltage and current build-up [ensuring minimal stress on the motor], controlled acceleration and deceleration rates, voltage boost for high starting torque; synchronizing, dynamic braking and electronic reversing are optional extras.
