Bangalore safety glass works pvt. Ltd manufactures tempered safety glass which is fabricated by heating preprocessed/float glass to a softening point. This is achieved by placing the glass in a special furnace for few minutes. It is pressed in the die to obtain desired shapes. It is then carried into the midst of series of chillers/jets and quenched by a uniform blast of cool air with the help of high power blower. The intense heat & sudden cooling brings about a thermal stress in the glass. This process makes the glass very hard & strong. Tempered safety glass has high tensile strength, which enables it to withstand stress, vibrations & thermal shock better than ordinary glass.
Features of tempered glass :
Tempered glass is 5-7 times stronger than ordinary sheet/float glass in terms of surface hardness, tensile strength & thermal resistance.
In the event of breakage, the glass breaks into blunt particles causing practically no injury to the passengers.
It can withstand sudden temperature change [for example a tempered glass of 5mm thick can withstand temp. Change of 200° c].
